Description

SADDAM HUSSEIN PERSONALLY OWNED SALAD PLATE FROM HIS ROYAL PALACE Porcelain dessert plate from one of Hussein's many palaces. An elegant, blue and white 6 in. plate, with gold edge encompassing intricate detailing. The Iraqi seal is seen on the back, as well as the maker-mark 'AYNSLEY' below the seal. Very fine. Provenance: Directly sourced from the estate of Saddam Hussein Saddam Hussein: Saddam Hussein (April 28, 1937 – December 30, 2006) was the fifth President of Iraq, ruling from July 16, 1979, until his capture on April 9, 2003. Under his leadership, Iraq experienced significant economic growth, infrastructural development, and modernization. However, his reign was also marked by grave human rights abuses, acts of aggression against neighboring countries, and conflicts like the Iran-Iraq War and the Gulf War. Following the 2003 invasion of Iraq by a U.S.-led coalition, Saddam was captured, tried, and subsequently executed in 2006. This dish is a remnant of his personal belongings, merging the worlds of artistry and history.
