Under his leadership, Iraq experienced significant economic growth, infrastructural development, and modernization. However, his reign was also marked by grave human rights abuses, acts of aggression against neighboring countries, and conflicts like the Iran-Iraq War and the Gulf War. Following the 2003 invasion of Iraq by a U.S.-led coalition, Saddam was captured, tried, and subsequently executed in 2006.
