This is an extremely rare type 1 original photo of Princess Diana shaking hands with an AIDS patient (Ivan Cohen) on April 19th, 1987. Not only did this famous photo make the front page of newspapers across the world it also changed the world’s outlook on people with AIDS in the 80’s. Most people back then believed they could contract the disease by simple skin contact or airborne transmission. Princess Diana personally requested a photograph be taken showing her shaking a patient’s hand without gloves to show people that it was safe to do so. This iconic photo helped tackle the stigma associated with the illness at that time. Taken by royal photographer Anwar Hussein, this photo has went viral on TikTok, been voted one of her most iconic photos by Vogue and deemed the title "Di’s Hand of Hope” in a report published by the Daily Mirror. Photo has been authenticated as a type 1 original photo and encapsulated by PSA/DNA.
