Bust of Venus de Milo ca. 1850, plaster, HC Brix, Copenhagen Bust of Venus de Milo ca. 1850, plaster, HC Brix, Copenhagen Description Description Details About me Portrait bust of the Venus de Milo (Greek Aphrodite) Plaster, Copenhagen, ca. 1850/1870 In ancient times, Venus, the goddess of sensuality, love and beauty, was one of the twelve main gods of Olympus. The model for the bust is the famous one Venus de Milo , a life-size marble sculpture of the goddess discovered in 1820 on the Greek Cyclades island of Milos. As a highlight and masterpiece of Greek art, it can now be admired in the Louvre in Paris. Very nice, original condition. Matt white plaster with a marble look on a round plinth, with the embossed stamp “Eneret HC Brix” on the back. Age-related loss of hair as well as smaller, older repairs (nose, lower edge of base, neck). Otherwise very nice, original appearance with a lot of charm. Height: 50.5 cm Weight: 5.7 kg The Danish sculptor Hans Christian Brix (1831-19079) studied with Hermann Wilhelm bite . In addition to his artistic work, he developed a technological process that could be used to reproduce small-format sculptures. He founded a company that produced very high-quality replicas of ancient sculptures, but also of works by important Danish artists such as Bertel Thorvaldsen and Hermann W. Bissen . Curiosity, thirst for knowledge and a lot of collaboration with amazing personalities in the art and design world are how I got myself to where I am today. Through antiques, history becomes tangible in the literal sense, one can perceive it sensually. They calmly defy the constant change of fashions and the taste of the times. They are like a bridge between past and present. For me personally they are an inexhaustible source of inspiration. Some objects give up puzzles, lock themselves up; others quite frankly reveal their past. They radiate joie de vivre, astonish or enchant us; make a collector's heart beat faster or become good friends and a meaningful place in your lives. They may be bulky or controversial, but they are never boring. I believe the stories, the hands, and the tradition behind the objects are equally as important as their aesthetic qualities. Antique objects can add so much value to your life, and I personally cannot imagine a home without it. Each piece in my shop has been thoughtfully and personally chosen. What unites them is their craftsmanship, care and attention to detail. Enjoy them.
